If you are standing in water right now, do not panic. Locate your Main Water Valve and follow these steps immediately to stop the flow and protect your home.
STEP 1: Locate the Valve
In most Denver and Englewood homes, your main water shut-off is located on the inside of the wall facing the street. Look in these common spots:
-
The Basement or Crawlspace: Usually near the front of the house, where the main pipe comes through the foundation.
-
Near the Water Heater: Sometimes the main line enters near your utility closet.
-
Mechanical Room: If you have a dedicated room for your furnace and heater.
- City Shutoff: If you can’t find your main shutoff in the house, go to the street and look for the city meter shutoff:

STEP 2: Relieve the Pressure
Once the valve is closed, go to the lowest level of your house (like a basement utility sink) and turn on the cold water. This drains the “stored” water still sitting in your pipes, stopping the “drip-drip” from the leak faster.
